FEBRUARY GARDEN WORKDAYS

Saturday, February 18 ~ 9 AM - 12 Noon
Saturday, February 25 ~ 12 Noon - 3 PM

Workdays are scheduled for the last two Saturdays in February. It's time for winter clean up and to get the garden spruced up for the plant sale on March 3rd. This Saturdays efforts will be focused on the compost area and general maintenance: mowing, weeding, etc.

The new Sunshine Garden T-shirts will be available for purchase this Saturday during workday hours. $10/each for Sunshine Gardeners, sizes: S, M, L, and XL.

The 2012 Plant Sale Buyer's Guide is available on the garden website's Home page.

It has all the lists of tomato, pepper, eggplant, tomatillo, and herb varieties available for purchase at the Spring Plant Sale -- with descriptions.

Volunteers Needed for Spring Plant Sale

Don't forget to sign up to work the Spring Plant Sale on March 3rd. Hours worked during the Plant Sale and for set up before and clean up after the sale count as garden Service Hours. And it's a good way to meet other gardeners at Sunshine.

There are sign-up sheets in the trailer, or contact Ila Falvey, ila.falvey@gmail.com.

Also, if you have already signed up and didn't indicate the hours that you plan to work, contact Ila Falvey to let her know so she can work out the schedule and make sure we have enough people for all the areas and hours of the sale.

Saturday, February 25 at 9 am
Zilker Botanical Garden Center, 2220 Barton Springs Drive

Texas native plant expert and educator Matt Turner, Ph.D., will lead an exploration into the "Remarkable Plants of Texas."
Turner will discuss a selection of Texas plants from his first book which explores the little-known facts--archaeological, historical, material, medicinal, culinary or cultural---behind our everyday botanical landscape. His book looks at how people have used plants for food, shelter, medicine and economic subsistence; how plants have figured into the historical record and in Texas folklore; how plants nourish wildlife; and how some plants have unusual ecological or biological characteristics.
